Dear One and All,

Yes, Floyd Mori has accepted the position of National Director.  Floyd notified staff of his appointment and acceptance.  JACL will issue a press release to the JA community newspapers by Wednesday/Thursday.  We gave the Pacific Citizen the scoop, of course, and the story will run in the upcoming issue the California board members will see in their mail by the end of the week.

Floyd is humbled by the responsibility and the challenges before us.  Know that he realizes years of underfunding and staffing means the remaining staff have taken on additional duties outside of their training and skill set.  He also understands John Tateishi was a great leader and friend to them, and he knows change and dealing with a new personality after seven years will not be easy for all.

He recognizes staff members are critical components of what JACL tries to do for the community and without them, JACL would have an impossible time functioning as an organization. He knows he has a lot to learn and asks for their patience (as well as ours) as he moves up the learning curve.  At the same time, change is coming as
Floyd addresses the "How" and works to earn everyone's cooperation and commitment.

In closing, I want to recognize and thank the national personnel committee members (Larry Oda, Elaine Akagi, Bob Taniguchi, Betsy Sato, Karyl Matsumoto, Karen Yoshitomi, Caroline Aoyagi, Michelle Yoshida) for boldly
going where we haven't gone in seven years.  They get another week of quiet from me and then we start on the next NPC tasks.

Sheldon
