SOURIVONG JOINS JACL AS NEW
MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR
CONTACT: Floyd Mori, (202) 223-1240 Oct. 3, 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Japanese American
Citizens League (JACL) has announced the appointment of Lotchana Sourivong as
their new membership coordinator in the San Francisco Headquarters
office.
Sourivong joins the JACL from the Senior
Action Network (SAN), where she worked as a community outreach coordinator.
During her three years with SAN, Sourivong worked as a policy advocate on the
issues of healthcare and safety for seniors. She specialized in universal
healthcare, prescription drug plans and transportation safety. As one of her
main achievements, Sourivong organized non- and limited-English speaking Chinese
to help improve MUNI safety and better service low income
neighborhoods.
Hailing from Laos, she was the first
person in her family to attend college, graduating from San Diego State
University with a bachelor’s degree in Asian American Studies and Political
Science.
National Executive Director Floyd Mori
stated, “We are fortunate to have someone with the experience in the broad Asian
American community that Lotchana brings. She understands the importance of
membership development and has the capabilities needed to work with
chapters.”
Sourivong is an executive board member of
the Lao Seniors Association in Richmond and a project manager for the Wat Lao
Sayattha in Santa Rosa.
“I hope to use my membership position to
recruit active and new members in my work advocating for civil rights in these
particular realms,” said Sourivong.
